The suspicious attitude of doctors to potatoes is aimed primarily at chips – and that because of the high content of salt. However, recent research indicates the need for caution in relation to the other dishes of the “second bread”.

The potato occupies an important place in the diet of people in many countries. For a long time the doctors urged not to abuse the potato dishes because of their relatively high calorie content, which can lead to the development of obesity.

And the results of research conducted by American scientists from the clinic Braima in Boston (Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston), can lead to a change in attitude to all without exception, the dishes of potatoes – including almost diet baked potatoes.

The Boston scientists concluded that regular consumption of potato is associated with an increased risk of hypertension.

They studied the results of 3 major scientific studies conducted previously by other scientists, the total number of participants more than 187 000 people.

Data analysis showed that compared with subjects who ate a meal of potatoes not more than 1 time in a month, fans of potatoes, which have included it in your diet 4 times a week, the risk of developing hypertension was higher by 11%.

This increases the risk of hypertension associated with consumption of potato, was detected in all 3 studies.

Researchers from Boston believe that potatoes are rich in starch, can cause a rapid increase in the level of glucose in the blood, which in turn can cause resistant high blood pressure.
