Currently, recreational marijuana use is allowed in 5 States – a few more I plan to fully legalize weed in the near future. It’s possible that data published by scientists, will force legislators to reconsider.

In December 2012 the American state of Washington (Washington) became the second administrative-territorial unit of the United States (after Colorado) in which it was permitted to use marijuana not only for medical reasons, but with the purpose of getting intoxicated.

And scientists are one of the American universities have published research data, which they spent in Washington state by order of the charity organization ‘ Foundation for road safety USA (AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety).

The task of the researchers was not very complicated: to analyze the statistics of road accidents. They compared the data on road traffic accidents in the state in 2013 and 2014.

In this case, scientists were interested only in a serious road accident with a deadly outcome. They found that the number of drivers, participants in such an accident in the blood which was discovered components of cannabis, has increased from 8% in 2013 to 17% in 2014.

In 2014, marijuana shortly before the accident had been Smoking every 6 driver, became involved in an accident with a fatal outcome.

In addition, the researchers found that the method of determining whether or not the driver in a condition of narcotic intoxication, which is now used by the traffic police of the United States, has high inaccuracy.

In contrast to the metabolites of alcohol, cannabinoids, many people are excreted from the body very quickly. Scientists found that the blood and urine of participants of road accident is on average 2 hours after the accident – during which time the component level of cannabis in the body of the driver may fall to very low levels, not exceeding the allowable value.

Based on these data, the staff of the Fund road safety insist on changing the entire system of determining the fact of being in a condition of narcotic intoxication. In addition to the analyses they propose to introduce methods for detection of physiological disorders (coordination of movements, reaction speed and the like).
