The reason for the development of inflammation is often a complication of a current infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract — rhinitis, influenza, scarlet fever, measles, and periodontitis of the upper molars. The main infectious agent — Staphylococcus aureus, refers to conditionally pathogenic microorganisms: normally does not manifest itself, but by reducing the immunity actively multiplies, causing the development of various infectious diseases. Statistically, up to 50% of adults are carriers.

Identified a number of factors that increase the risk of this disease:

  • hypothermia, a finding in the draft;
  • weakening of the immune system;
  • dysfunction of the glands of the mucous membrane;
  • injury to the mucosa of the sinuses, including the hot dry air and chemical fumes;
  • anomalies of development or post-traumatic changes of the nasopharynx;
  • allergic reactions.

What happens in the body?

Inflamed mucosa swells, significantly narrows the lumen of the excretory ducts of the sinuses, there is an active separation and accumulation of serous fluid. All this is accompanied by a feeling of nasal congestion, tension and pain in the sinuses, temples of the forehead; heaviness in head, worse when stooping. The temperature rises to 37-38 degrees Celsius. Symptoms increase, the content of the sinuses becomes purulent, deteriorating General condition, in severe cases, swollen eyelids and the cheeks. In the transition to the chronic stage affects the submucosa and bony walls of the sinuses, due to the persistent violation of air worsening memory and reduced overall health.

In the absence of proper treatment of sinusitis is fraught with formidable complications such as otitis media, meningitis and even sepsis. Also damage other organs: kidneys, joints, heart, associated with the presence of a chronic source of infection in the body.

Diagnosis and treatment of sinusitis.

At the moment, the diagnosis of sinusitis is made by conducting x-rays and diaphanoscope (x-raying a special light bulb). Treatment is mainly conservative and is aimed at restoring the outflow of fluid from the sinuses and normalization of the General condition: used vasoconstrictors, irrigation of nasal cavity, antibiotics, antipyretics, bed rest. Plays a considerable role in physical therapy – the impact on the affected area rays lamp blue light, UHF currents significantly accelerates the healing process.

With the lack of effect of conservative treatment resort to puncture of maxillary sinuses with subsequent drainage of the contents and lavage with antiseptic solutions. Also used bottled sinusplasty (extension pin openings of the sinus with a special balloon catheter) and setting Yamik catheter for removing contents from the sinuses.
